Bakewell Pudding and Tickley Things
Bakewell Pudding – Yes Please
Now, did you know that Bakewell Pudding and Bakewell Tarts are two different things? The famous pudding which gave the village its name (well, according to Tipsy anyway), was supposed to have come about from a misunderstanding. The happy accident occurred when the mistress of the White Horse inn instructed her cook to add an egg mixture to a strawberry tart, and she added jam to the top instead (an easy mistake to make, of course). The result was so popular, that a neighbour decided to make the pudding into a pudding business and the rest, as they say, is history – and particularly delicious history at that.
Don’t forget to try the Bakewell pudding ice cream too!
Tickley things
Other treats of the beautiful Peak District area include the quirky, twisty, bendy, Crooked Spire of the Church of St Mary and All Saints in Chesterfield. Having been added to the church in the 14th Century, it is thought that the lead on the South-facing side of the tower expands faster than that on the North-face, and so causes the phenomenon.
We also saw another tickle-arty piece of art in Morrisons, which looked equally twisty, but was meant to be like that.
